Season 5 Cover Countdown: The Brave and the Bold #85

With 85 days left to Arrow Season 5, we look at two classic comic book covers.

Every year on GreenArrowTV’s Twitter feed and Facebook page, we’d count down to the new season’s premiere with a classic Green Arrow-related comic book cover. After all, it was the comic books that inspired the TV series to begin with.

Since there had sometimes been confusion about the covers without any context, this year we’re going to describe the comic book covers that we are showing. The issue numbers on the comics will correspond to the number of days left before Season 5 begins. For example, there are 85 days left until Arrow Season 5, considering The CW has announced an October 5 premiere date.

The Brave and the Bold #85

#85 is a special number in Green Arrow history.

It was issue #85 of Batman team-up title The Brave and the Bold that artist Neal Adams first debuted the “new look” for Green Arrow — the one that inspired every one to come later. Before that, Oliver Queen didn’t even have the goatee!

#85 was also the issue of Green Lantern/Green Arrow that started the “Roy/Speedy is a junkie” story — as mentioned yesterday, a historic one for the comics. You can see that cover below.
