Every year on GreenArrowTV’s Twitter feed and Facebook page, we’d count down to the new season’s premiere with a classic Green Arrow-related comic book cover. After all, it was the comic books that inspired the TV series to begin with.
Since there had sometimes been confusion about the covers without any context, this year we’re going to describe the comic book covers that we are showing. The issue numbers on the comics will correspond to the number of days left before Season 5 begins. For example, there are 94 days left until Arrow Season 5, considering The CW has announced an October 5 premiere date.
Here’s today’s entry. (Sorry we didn’t get around to one yesterday!)
Green Lantern/Green Arrow #94
The 1970s were a time when it was a big deal to see Green Arrow without his trademark goatee — something he had ever since Neal Adams got his pencils on the character. Where did his beard go? You’d have to pick up the issue to see!
Also notice the cover design. While the DC Bullet was a relatively new thing to DC Comics covers at the time, the use of two circles — one for the company logo, the other for the price and issue number — is something that DC has recently re-adopted with the new Rebirth comics.
In the comics, Green Arrow did actually join Green Lantern in a morgue for a while, for a few years in the late 1990s. And, of course, Black Canary is now dead on Arrow.
94 days are left to the Arrow season premiere – be sure to come back daily for more countdown posts! Past “Cover Countdown” posts can be found here.
