With 101 days left to Arrow Season 5, here's another classic Green Arrow comic book cover. Season 5 Cover Countdown: Green Arrow #101

Every year on GreenArrowTV’s Twitter feed and Facebook page, we’d count down to the new season’s premiere with a classic Green Arrow-related comic book cover. After all, it was the comic books that inspired the TV series to begin with.

Since there had sometimes been confusion about the covers without any context, this year we’re going to describe the comic book covers that we are showing. The issue numbers on the comics will correspond to the number of days left before Season 5 begins. For example, there are 101 days left until Arrow Season 5, considering The CW has announced an October 5 premiere date.

Here’s today’s entry.

Green Arrow #101

“Oliver Queen is dead…”

In late 1995, following the trend of creating replacement characters that resulted in Superman’s death, Batman’s back getting broken, and Green Lantern going crazy, DC Comics decided to kill Oliver Queen, the Green Arrow — and he stayed that way for a few years.

The whole thing transpired in a story that involved Oliver’s arm, a plane, a bomb, and Superman, who guest starred in this issue, 1990s mullet and all. Green Arrow was replaced by his newly-discovered son, Connor Hawke, who headlined the Green Arrow comic book series for nearly four years and even took a spot on the Justice League. Writer Kevin Smith brought Green Arrow back in a new Green Arrow series complete with a new #1 a few years later; “Quiver” is considered one of the best Green Arrow comics.

101 days are left to the Arrow season premiere – be sure to come back daily for more countdown posts! Past “Cover Countdown” posts can be found here.
