Interview with Andrew Kreisberg about Arrow Season 2, The Flash spin-off, and Summer Glau On-Set Interview: Andrew Kreisberg On Season 2’s Premiere, Summer Glau & The Flash

Screen Shot 2013-10-01 at 9.27.29 AMArrow Season 2 is almost here — it premieres Wednesday, October 9 with “City Of Heroes” — and we’re up in Vancouver, doing interviews with cast and crew members of the show on a whirlwind press tour that landed us at the set of Arrow yesterday. While there, we spoke with several of the actors in addition to Executive Producer Andrew Kreisberg, who offered some hints about Season 2.

“It starts off in a very unusual place which we’re really excited about,” Kreisberg teases. “We approached the first episode as if it was a movie sequel. It was like ‘what do all the best sequels do?’ So every character that comes back, gets a real sort of cinematic reintroduction.”

“Everything about it is 2.0,” he continues. “It’s a new mission statement. It’s five months after the Undertaking, so we’re finding some people in very different circumstances than people are probably expecting, both emotionally and professionally. There are moments in it that just feel like, if this was a movie, it was Part 2. Or [it feels] even like the feeling I got watching The X-Files movie — it’s like ‘it’s the TV show but it’s a movie!’ Episode 201 sort of feels like movie version of the show,” he says.

City of HeroesThat “movie version of the show” will be bringing in a longtime fan favorite as a guest for the season premiere. Summer Glau — who fans know best from Serenity and Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles — is coming on as Isabel Rochev.

“What’s really funny about Summer – and she even said this to me — she’s like ‘I’ve never played anybody like this before. When do I get to punch somebody?’ What’s interesting about Summer’s character is that even though Isabel Rochev is a character from the comic books, she’s actually a nemesis of Oliver Queen’s far more than she’s a nemesis of The Arrow’s. One of the story arcs this season is that the company that Summer represents is trying to take over Queen Consolidated, because Queen Consolidated took a massive PR hit, considering that they were the company that built the machine that killed 503 people. So Oliver really has to step in and become The CEO. With Summer there’s a lot of banter, and jousting, and sparks flying, and anger, and yelling… it’s sort of a fun, different dynamic than we’ve ever had on the show,” he says.

City of HeroesWill those sparks mean romance? “‘Sparks fly’ doesn’t mean that people are gonna get together,” he teases.

Looking further ahead, Kreisberg was asked about Barry Allen/The Flash (Grant Gustin) being developed for three episodes in Arrow Season 2, and the potential spin-off that he could be featured him. You can read Kreisberg’s thoughts about that here at our Flash portal, FlashTVNews.

Even with all of those things discussed above, this is just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to the many things we learned here on our Vancouver trip. Come back to GreenArrowTV through to the show’s Wednesday, October 9 season premiere for more from Kreisberg as well as actors Stephen Amell, Emily Bett Rickards, Susanna Thompson, and Willa Holland!
