Has the “someone will die” trope proven to no longer be a ratings booster?

Overnight ratings for “Eleven-Fifty-Nine” are in, and while not bad, they still didn’t go up in the way one might have expected. The show had 2.24 million viewers and an 0.8/3 in the Ages 18-49 demo, which is actually lower than Arrow gets a lot of the time. In the demographic, Arrow beat Heartbeat on NBC.

Final numbers should go up once DVR and other things are factored in.
