TVLine‘s Matt Mitovich caught up with actor Justin Hartley on The CW’s 2012 Upfront Red Carpet, and he asked Justin, who played Green Arrow/Oliver Queen over five seasons of Smallville, if he offered new “Arrow” Stephen Amell any advice.

“[Stephen] doesn’t need any tips from me. I wouldn’t even begin to do that… He’s going to be great,” Justin said.

Stephen Amell also spoke with TVLine, and said that although they’ve become “buddies,” he and Justin haven’t spoken much about the role they both have played. Like in the MTV interview, Amell pointed out that the projects are quite different, adding that Arrow is “sort of like Chris Nolan’s DC universe, where nobody has superpowers”…. as opposed to Smallville, where “a lot of people have powers.”

“That’s a fundamental difference,” Amell said. Stephen also told TVLine that the Green Arrow name isn’t even used. “He’s actually called ‘the hood guy’ a couples times in the pilot,” he said. “But for now he’s just Arrow.”
