Interview with Stephen Amell of The CW's Arrow Arrow Spoilers: Stephen Amell Talks Thea, The Crossover, A New Costume & More

AR303a_0383bLast week, we spoke with Stephen Amell on the Vancouver set of Arrow, and as there is a new episode of the show tonight, we figured we’d share it… with video!

Tonight’s episode, “Corto Maltese,” looks to reunite Oliver with his sister, Thea, who went off with her father Malcolm Merlyn at the end of Season 2. “He knows very little about what she’s done other than she’s lied about where she is. We find out very early on in episode 3 that she’s been saying she’s in the Amalfi Coast and she’s not. And Oliver calls her on that immediately, but Oliver comes to the realization that the only way to bring her home — when it was lies that drove her away — is to tell her the truth. How much truth he has to tell her is one of the crucial points of the episode,” Stephen hints.

AR302b_0375bAs the season goes on, Amell says that the theme of the season is “identity” but, because of spoilers, they weren’t always to say exactly why. “What we haven’t been able to say is he’s thrown into this conundrum because of Sara’s death. Well, we are. So I think right now Oliver can’t see past the idea of being the Arrow. That’s it. One of the cool things we’re doing this year is we’re setting up a world by the end of the season where ultimately he will have that choice and one way or another he will make it. But vengeance and revenge is certainly on his mind at the moment,” he teases. Of course, Sara’s death will also loom large on Oliver’s dynamic with Laurel. “The dynamic has been very adversarial, actually,” Stephen says. “What she wants and what he’s prepared to reciprocate are at odds with one another and that carries through certainly the fall run of the show.”

AR303a_0026bAlso later this Fall, of course, will be the two-part crossover that begins in the eighth episode of The Flash and continues into Episode 8 of Arrow’s third season. “You can tell that the writers have been waiting for the opportunity to mix these words and mix characters for a long time. I personally really enjoyed working with Carlos [Valdes as Cisco]. He’s just a very very fun character. And I think that one of the most interesting parts about the whole episode is an observation that Oliver makes about Harrison Wells,” Stephen hints.

What else do fans have to look forward to? Stephen says that they’re really going to enjoy the reveal of Ra’s al Ghul, within the first few frames of seeing him. “That’s gonna be pretty cool. It’s gonna create a lot of chatter,” he enthuses.

You can see the whole interview with Stephen below, including more talk about the crossover, a new Arrow costume, the bow, and more. Enjoy, and don’t miss tonight’s new episode! A gallery of images from “Corto Maltese” can be found here.
